My name is Samantha Fitzwater, and I currently am a graduate student at University of Chicago pursuing my masters in social work to become a clinical therapist working with individuals and families. Over the past few years, I have had the opportunity to work with children, adolescents, and adults across a variety of clinical settings, including outpatient psych hospitals, inpatient and outpatient recovery centers/rehabs, addiction treatment centers, and ABA residential homes.
As an intern with a strong foundation for mental health and social work, I love to specialize in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT) to help clients navigate emotional and psychological challenges. My approach emphasizes mindfulness, acceptance, and behavior change, empowering individuals to build healthier coping strategies and create meaningful, values-driven lives. With experience in addictions, mental health, trauma, and a commitment to holistic well-being, I aim to foster resilience and emotional growth in every client I work with and provide a compassionate and nonjudgmental space for clients to explore their challenges and strengths, while learning to implement effective strategies for personal growth. My goal is to help individuals build resilience and improve their overall quality of life through collaborative, strengths-based approaches. While at Rosewatter I will be supervised by Sydnie Dobkin LCPC.
Outside of work I like to spend time with family and friends, be outdoors, travel, read books, watch movies, and learn new skills whether that’s professionally or personally, as I believe continuous growth is key to both life and therapy.
